The John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge spans the Ohio River between Cincinnati, Ohio and Covington, Kentucky. Completed in 1866, it was then the longest suspension bridge in the world. Designed by John A. Roebling (born Johann August Robling, June 12, 1806 – July 22, 1869), a German-born American civil engineer, famous for his wire rope suspension bridge designs, in particular, the design of the Brooklyn Bridge.
